David Sykes is Larry Hearn McCalla Professor of Computer Science at Wofford College. He has been teaching computer science in college since 1996 and started teaching at Wofford College in September 2001. Before starting to teach, he was a Ph.D. student at Clemson University and was affiliated with Software Architects, responsible for training software developers in object-oriented design. Before going back to graduate school, he worked for thirteen years as a software developer, first at NCR Corporation and then at SofTech, Inc. He worked primarily as a compiler developer but also as an application programmer, a software tester, and a systems analyst. He served as a Deputy Department Manager and as the manager of a large contract with the United States Air Force.
